The short version is that because of costs and our credit-card handling host, American Express is not a good option. I'm afraid Mastercard, Visa, and Discover will have to do.
I believe we CAN take Amex for On-Site registration; but this is something I forget promptly each year in the haze of a dozen ongoing issues. On-Site registration's payment is simply us, a credit card machine, and a phone line; it does not go through a third party as our Pre-Registration payments do; and it traditionally allows us an increase of options.

"Furry can take you to the heart of the Steel City, into the soft embrace of a fursuit, and onto a stage in front of three thousand screaming fans... but it won't take American Express."
Probably because Amex charges organizations an arm and a leg for the use of their card.

I think I should let Chiaroscuro answer this, but we've had problems with AmEx in the past. I can't confirm the type of problem that we had, though.

permalinkI can even imagine the TV commercial... the last part would be you, standing behind the Reg desk with your hand raised, as if to say, "Sorry, no go."
(Of course, in light of what Chiaro said, that would be followed by you saying "Just kidding!")
