Each year the official bag is different. So it depends on what year you want.

permalinkWe must note again the two definitions of "badge".
1) The convention badge given with paid membership.
2) The badge you buy from an artist for an agreed upon price. Either already produced or brand new art, (commission).
Only the first one is necessary for attendance and you should keep it visible whenever attending a convention activity.
People collect both.

You have a debit/credit card laying around somewhere? They're about that size, with a clip to attach it to your shirt/fursuit/lanyard. They usually have art from that year's Guest of Honor (in 08 it was Floyd Norman
) as a background, and depending on if you're a minor or adult, the scheme is a bit different.
Also, if you're a volunteer or sponsor of some sort, you get ribbons to attach to them.
In 08 you also got a ribbon if you filled out the furry survey (I have one!)
I'm excited to see what this year's badges will looks like

This is actually on topic, so I moved your post into the General Discussion form.
I have some badges at home, I'll see if I can take a couple pictures of them tonight.

The badges are very easy to identify. As stated, they are credit card sized, made of plastic, with the name or surname of the person visible on the front, just below the artwork in a non-serif font. The Anthrocon logo is on the back of the badge.
MINOR badges are significantly different than regular attending badges.
Information about the person's status or sponsorship is displayed on the badge as well.
Information on the badge overrides any visible ribbons attached to it.
Securing your badge and keeping it with you at all times is YOUR responsibility.
I can't stress that enough. If you are not confident in the badge clips provided for you, there are badge holders that are sold in the Dealer's Den. I find those lanyard pouches to be quite useful.

I will note while Anthrocon badges are not featured on this page, it may be helpful in clearing up the different types of badges: http://furry.wikia.com/wiki/Con_badge

I have a picture for a more visual understanding:
Heres the official badge for last years 08 convention "Its a jungle out there!" with a comparison of a average size debit card (with certain bits of information blacked out for obvious reasons). You can see its the same size and shape. I had a attending badge which is the standard registration. The Sponsor and Super Sponsor official badges are the exact same thing with the attending names at the top left corner changed to Sponsor or Super Sponsor respectively. It also comes with a nifty ribbon if you choose the latter two. Of course, the animal theme will be changed for 09' to something more fitting.
Generally, the official badge (and a photo ID), you see is all you need to get into AC. Most furries though, being the little creative beings they are, like to add a lil more color. This is where you see all those other badges, con badges, hung on everyone of their fursonona and allies. This is done because it looks cool for one thing, it allows other fans to recognize each other, and its a furry convention. How many you'd like to wear is up to you. Most furries typically wear 3 or 4 though its not uncommon to see some wearing as many as 10! The wikifur link that Chiaroscuro provided can explain things more fully.
One thing you need to keep in mind when wearing badges to AC is that they may not have any nudity, gore, or suggestive themes to it.

Hey, your credit card has a deer on it! How furry.
(Thank you for posting the image, as well)
Indeed, the '09 artwork will be radically different, but will feature the same four key pieces of information on the front: Membership Type, Attendee Number, Anthrocon 2009, and Atteendee Name. What will our talented artist create for 2009? Only time will tell.
To note, 2008's badge was drawn by Floyd Norman, our Guest of OK, with background and colour by Cuprohastes.

Correction: a Buck which is a type of deer. This pays homage to our Central Hockey League teamThe Laredo Bucks!. Nifty though huh? Looking at it gives me a idea for a southwest style theme for 2010.
