competitive swimming?
|
Hey guy's just wondering who here has ever swam competitivly? I swim for my high school team and i'm our freestyler/butterfly i've been swimming for 1 year all year around and i've gotten pretty good at it only one and half a second away from state qualifying time for my 50 freestyle hopefully trying to make that this year as a sophmore which is now 24.56 seconds on my 50. This saturday I placed gold, silver, and bronze, in my medly rellay 200 free rellay, and 400 free rellay. It was pretty cool since i've never won a gold medal in anything before! lol. well just wondering if there's any other furry swimmers out there. |

I was an All State backstroker, was on the varsity team for 6 years (got recruited in 7th grade) and I've got the bad shoulders to prove it.

*Blinks* Is the Backstroke itself a debilitating or degenerative exercise? Or is this due to the stresses of competition for speed?
That seems to be too high a price to ask of any "sport".

permalinkHey that's cool what was your time in the 100 back? Last year my freshman year I was my teams backstroker too. And yeah for some reason my shoulders hurt after awhile too. It was mostly because when I first started I wasn't taught the correct way to do it and I would pull my stroke all the way down and over reach as far as a could in the water. But after being taught the actual way at Mizzou (University of Missouri)by one of there backstrokers, .. And yeah my shoulders still hurt when we start some build up IM's at practice so much that my coaches don't really put me in the 100 back any more. This sophmore year they've pratically only put me in 50 free 100 free 100 butterfly and medly(butterfly/freestyle)and 200 relay or 400 relay. Which is fine with me cause those are my favorite events this year. You say you got started in seventh grade? Did you have a swim team in middle school, that's cool! In Missouri there isn't alot of middle schools who give out that kinda oppurtunity i think well my middle school didn't. High school has alot more sports that you can do I guess.

I'm not very sure I would probly think any sport you do alot of you get hurt from things over time. Let alone Swimming is one of the best excersizes I would think for alot of people like rehibilitation and stuff. But it's also true when ur pushing your self to go faster you could probly mess up parts of your body that's why alot of swimmers stretch and do warm ups before a meet and practice and a cool down in the end.
