Dealer Registration and Hotel Reservations to open soon
|
Anthrocon will begin accepting applications for Dealers' Room space after September 15, 2008. More information can be found on our Dealers' Room Page. We are planning to open up reservations at the Westin and Doubletree hotels on or about October 1. We are still working out some final contract details in an effort to get the best deal for our attendees and to make sure there is enough space for everyone who wants to join us in July. UPDATE, September 16, 2008 Due to recent flooding in the Chicago area where our Dealers' Room staff is located, table assignments will be delayed. We still hope to be able to send confirmation that applications have been received and that space is available by October 1. |

You will be waiting a very long time. There is no such things a three-bedroom suite. The suites in the Westin are either one- or two-bedroom. The presidential suite at the Doubletree has three bedrooms as I recall, but it's a bit pricey.

Well phooey. We can just get a two bedroom then and get a king room close to it i suppose. Do you have any info on the suites as of yet though? Oh, and I'm glad you enjoyed your roller coaster weekend!

Suites for the Westin will not be available until later. The Doubletree has suites that have two beds in the bedroom, and a sofabed in the parlor. They will be available when general hotel reservations open in a few weeks.

You listed the Westin and Doubletree ... what about the Omni?

The Omni is booked on our weekend next year with another group, so they could not offer us any rooms for 2009.

I think for next year the Marriot Courtyard is going to be packed as it is a great alternative to the westin. Nice size rooms for the money.

The Marriott consistently refuses to give us a room block each year. They are a business hotel, not a convention hotel, and apparently are not as keen on having fursuits in their lobby as the other hotels are.

I would think they'd like to have our "business",lol. Overall i had a pleasant experience and the staff were very attentive and supportive during our time there for the con.
I guess they'd like us to be more "business" like in our demeanor which is not entirely impossible whether in fursuit or not.
I'll have a chat with head honcho there.

If the Marriott does that, then they just shoot themselves in the foot. After all, hotels do profit off conventions, do they not? I don't know difference ratio of profit-gain between regular guests and conventions, however.

permalinkUm, if that's the case, shouldn't they be removed from the links on the left? (When not replying, there's a link about rooms now being available in the Omni).

I seriously need to tweak that "related topics" box, or just drop it altogether. I can't have it displaying articles from past years like that.
Also, I modified that post (and every post before the 2008 convention, actually) to make it clear that the posting was from a past convention and may no longer be applicable.

permalinkI'd just like to mention that the State of Pennsylvania is really fast with its processing. It took me only 1 day to get approved:
September 10: PA application sent.
September 11: PA application approved, tax ID# received.
(September 15: Anthrocon Dealer's Application sent)
September 16: PA tax brochure received.

permalinkReally? I filled it out yesterday, and have yet to receive a response in my in-box.
Well, maybe they're slower during the middle of the week. ;P
EDIT: So, Naturally, it's in my inbox at 10pm (almost exactly 24 hours after applying). Figures. :j

Yes, it will be charged immediately this year. With the one night's deposit, you can get the room at the Westin or Doubletree.
Note: The Doubletree gives you a hot, fresh-baked chocolate-chip cookie when you check in.
Let me repeat that.

Uncle Kage or anyone who can answer this,
AC 09 will be my first con ever, and I had a few questions about the Westin hotel. I know prices are not yet final, but if you have an estimation on about how much a two bedroom would cost per night it would greatly help. Also, in a two bedroom, obviously there are two beds, but are there any couches? Thanks much in advance.
- Login or register to post comments
permalinkBlog: [Link]
Prices will be in the range of $120, plus 14% tax in total.
King rooms have one king-sized bed, a desk and a nice chair to sit in.
Double rooms have two double-sized beds, a desk and a nice chair to sit in. No couch.
You don't get a couch until you get up to the suites.
A corner suite has a small parlor room attached to the bedroom. It has a couch and a little dining-room style table.
The one- and two-bedroom parlor suites have a much larger parlor room attached. It has a couch, a very big dining-room style table, a second bathroom, nice comfy chairs, and in some cases a small bar.

Also note that the double rooms have a maximum occupancy of 4 people per room (in case that's why you were asking about couches).

Is it possible to have more than 4 in a room?

I believe, but would have to get confirmation from the hotel, that the suites have higher occupancy levels.
For all non-suite rooms, you are not allowed for safety reasons, by hotel rules, to exceed 4 people in a room.

From what I know, its 8 in a suite, as it has two bed rooms.

However, as the hotel does not come into the rooms to count heads, theres really nothing to stop you from having more then 4. Beware that if you make it obvious that you exceeded the limit, say by requesting 6 extra pillows, making a lot of noises that sounds like a party every night, or even announcing it on this board, the hotel is bound to do something about it. Whatever happens, don't expect any sympathy from Uncle Kage or anyone else from AC; They have a zero tolerance policy for any members breaking rules. While your chances of getting caught are fairly small, especially if you just have one or two extra guests, its still not something I encourage namely the by chance of being found red handed.

permalinkAs someone who works in the Hotel biz, trust me, the cleaning stuff know pretty much at a glance when a room is being over filled, but unless there is a real problem, they will rarely do anything about it.
I still don't recommend over stuffing a room cause it would really ruin your convention weekend to end up on the street.

I have a quick question about registration, I have my sister going with me to help out, but she's uncertain of her badge name, can I leave it blank and provide it at a later time?
Also, I'm not sure yet if I will bring my computer or not (might not be that useful to have the laptop but not the scanner), but, there is an option for electrical outlets. If I don't need the outlet, can I cancel it, later?
Lastly, I know they're working on getting WI-FI for the dealers, but, is the cost of WI-FI included or is there an additional fee for that?

You can change your badge name up until pre-registration closes, although we ask that you not do so too often.
We would much rather you wait and add the power later if you need it. You can do so up until pre-registration closes.
We have not yet worked out a deal for wireless access. We are not even certain if we will be able to provide it, let alone how much it will cost.

That sounds great! Okay, so I'll put the name she's currently leaning to and maybe she'll just stick with it. I'll wait for the power (when is pre-registration over? Is it April 1st?) And I'll just keep an eye out for the WI-FI, because it'll probably be a deciding factor in whether or not I bring my laptop. Thanks so much for your help.
OH! Also, is it okay that I just use my e-mail as her contact e-mail, or does she need a separate one? Her home address is the same as mine and I'll be handling everything on the dealer end.
