I think it would be cool to get a bunch of Christian people together at Anthrocon but i guess we are in the minority.

Thanks for the links there Giza.

Even if Christian furs are a minority, that's no reason you couldn't get a group together at the con. There's also no reason why a Furry Christian panel couldn't be held, AFAIK. Like every other scheduled panel, it would have to be arranged well before the con so that it could be fit into the timetable.

A Panel? What exactly is that?

A panel is a session at the con, like Weapon Art 101 or Fursuit Dancing. It's to share and learn more or new info about a topic you never knew before Smiling

We had many conventions and youth rally's down here, i was one of the guests of honor and drummer.

Good Times.

This would be a panel i guess. Christian Metal heads.

I think Father Kamau would fit that category. As would AltarSkunk.

D@mn you, Kage! For some reason, this triggered a memory of an obscure late 1950's song called Little Altar Boy. Now, it's running through my head as Little Altar Skunk! That's going to keep me awake for hours!

(P.S. There really was such a song. If you Google, you'll find the lyrics. The site I found attributed it to The Carpenters, but I heard it years before that...)

...As would XianJaguar! The "Xian" part of her artist name is pronounced, "Christian". And she is typical of the Christians found in Furry Fandom, very strong and assured in her faith, but doesn't push it on anybody.

There are A LOT of self-avowed Christian Furries (or Furry Christians, if you prefer), they just don't stand out; Sadly, the example behaviour of certain prominent televangelists has become a stereotype of "Christian" to most furries, and that stereotype is hostile and antagonistic - and quite unlike most of the Furry Christians whom I have met. A more visible Christian segment, composed of people already in the fandom, peacefully coexisting without waving Chick Tracts in folks' faces, would go far in dispelling this misimpression of "Christians" and the Christian Faith.

Personal opinion follows.

I divide Christians into two groups, with the only difference being a small or capital c. Capital c Christians are the ones who force their beliefs down your throat while small c christians let their lives give testimony to their beliefs. Sadly, here in the US, we see way more capital than small c Christians.

In short, from me Christian is an insult while christian is a compliment. I do not expect agreement from anyone else on this issue.

Heh. In other words, Christ-like christians, versus un-Christ-like Christians Sticking out tongue

At AC2007, I actually talked briefly with XianJaguar about this, on seeing a rainbow-colored "Furry Pride" piece among her dealer's table offerings. She's definitely not a popenik. Capital-c Christians would probably dismiss her as a "cafeteria Catholic" (i.e. pick and choose the bits you believe in), but it's much more sensible to see her as a conscientious one.

Not that people forcing ecclesiasticisms down esophagi tend to be a big problem at Anthrocon. What with the diverse crowd we draw, and the goings-on both visible and behind closed hotel-room doors, any straight-laced proselytizing types would run screaming out of Pittsburgh rather than tangle with our lot ^_^

Possibly more accurate: the difference between the righteous and the self-righteous. For example: a man named Stuart Shepard posted a video on Focus on the Family's website asking people to pray for a major downpour during Barack Obama's acceptance speech. (He later claimed it was a joke.) What happens? Good weather for Obama, Hurricane Gustav on the first day of the Republican Convention and Tropical Storm Hanna immediately after.

I would agree that the straight-laced proselytizing types would fail at Anthrocon for an additional reason: some of the attendees probably know the Bible better than they do. I've also wondered why these people who claim to be Christian spend more than 90% of their time quoting the Old Testament instead of the New...

At this time, I would like the discussion of religion itself to be taken elsewhere, and the thread topic to remain limited to the opportunity for Christian furries to introduce themselves to the original poster.

(Is AltarSkunk still kicking around the fandom? He had a pretty high profile some ten-odd years ago, but I haven't heard a peep about him in ages...)

Yes, there are us Christian furries out here.

There are a number of individuals who fit this category and a couple groups:

The Unicorn and Gryphon
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/unicorn_and_gryphon/

and the Furrs For Christ
http://furrsfurchrist.creationwarrior.com/forum/

Many are members of both groups and we always have a joint get-together at AC on Friday or Saturday night.

I'm a christian furry. There are not many of us but I guess we are really here in the crowd. ^.^;; I'm a little different though... I'm not hard core or a bible banger. lol I just believe in God, the whole dying on the cross and rising again thing. Also in his coming back(Dx Cannot wait!). I have not been in church for awhile however... I don't really fit in or well... I have yet to find a church I belong in. I'm Provident or whatever its called. Blah... now I rambled. x.X

I count myself as Christian though it is much more complicated than that.
To sum it up, I believe in Christ and his teachings, while the rest is... HateAngerHeathenWrathFuryScumRageFilthEternalTormentApocalypseDeathSmiteBurnBurnBURN!
Well I can do without that part...
I try to be a "Christ Like" Christian. Something we see so little of these days.

I do actually Smiling I help admin a group called Furrsfurchrist. We do events at Anthrocon each year including a social, a worship service, morning devotionals, and other activities. Feel free to check out our site: www.furrsfurchrist.com

BlackJack's picture

I keep missing the U & G get-together, but when I did attend it, it was a lot of fun.
It's a reminder that dry parties can still be fun- and not everything at AC
needs to be planned to the minute (which is much of my AC time.)

To paraphrase Emo Phillips....
I'm a Christian. Well, if by 'Christian', you mean 'attend church every Sunday',
I'm afraid I'm not a 'Christian' in that strict sense.
If by 'Christian', you mean, I attempt to live my life as Christ would have me live,
then, again, no.
If by 'Christian', you mean, I attend AnthroCon every year, well, there you go. Smiling

Firekeeper's picture

Keep an eye on the site or the U&G board as that is where we will be posting our events there. We do a social on Friday night, group devotional time each morning, and have a few other social events too.

I consider myself a Christian Fur. I believe in God as well as being a part of the furry community.

If there is a Christian Fur panel at AC 09, I'd definitely go to that. We could use it to clear up some misconceptions people have about both Christians and furries.

I am a very open minded member of the Episcopal church. Really I am not much of a church goer. Have a few mormon friends, which is kind of a trip. They don't know I am a fur though *chuckles*.

Well I am roman catholic and I am pretty sure they don't reject anyone because of age. Everyone run in terror from the words Roman Catholicism. But yea I am a fur and believe that some people just like to follow the crowd into some judgmental behavior. Supremacy also has a hand in it but hey no one is perfect.

Feltheridan's picture
Location: Flower Mound Texas

Supremacy of what? I am not trying to be a jerk, I am just asking what aspect of religion you are referring to the supremacy of. And congrats on baptism Roxie. When I was 10 or so, I considered it but I have drifted away from organized religions since that point. I am a stalwart believer in God, I just believe that a lot of people take a lot of messages from the bible too literally. I won't make any claims about any religious sections, all people interpret the message differently.

jdizzle's picture
Location: Ocean city, Maryland

I don't know I just never really got the whole go out and speak of your religion. In fact, the only reason I posted on here was because it intrigued me. But yea I understand if others have different opinions this is only mine.

Feltheridan's picture
Location: Flower Mound Texas

Agreed, I just wanted to congratulate Roxie and thought I would ask what you were talking about specifically when you referred to supremacy. once again, I am not trying to attack you.
Then I accidentally got on a tangent about my point of view about religions. I typically don't bring up my ideas in public, but I am not above laughing at my classmates in private.
