How early is too early to make reservations?

Hi all,
Me and a friend of mine are planning on attending AC 09. First time going to a con for both of us. I tend to be extremely over prepared for stuff and decided to book my hotel reservation already. Is it way early for me to have made reservations? I've never had to deal with large hotel booking situations like this before and am concerned that there might be a problem and I lose my reservation.

If anyone can let me know what would be the best course of action here, that'd be great Laughing out loud

Edit: If it makes any difference, the room I booked is at the Hampton Inn & Suites Pittsburgh-Downtown

Everyone's waiting for the announcement. Your best course is to book reservations as soon they become available.

Alright, I'm just mildly concerned that there might be an issue with minimum check-in age. I know the Doubletree has a min check-in age of 21... It took me forever to find a hotel that had one of 18.

The Westin sort of relaxes that rule for us. I'll talk to the Doubletree; last year since we were under the gun to get a contract I forgot to make that provision.

Currently we are targeting October 1 as the "now you can start making reservations" date. BE AWARE: A one-night room and tax deposit will be required when you make your reservation. This is applied to your bill when you check out, but it is not refundable if you cancel your reservation. We had far too many people canceling their reservations in the past and leaving us in the lurch at the last minute, so we really had no choice.

Okay.
I'm probably just going to keep my reservation with the Hampton for now, and then if I'm able to get a room at the Westin I'll cancel it.

That's certainly understandable, but, I have a question...if you book, let's say, two days, but want to stay longer after you've actually gotten there, is it difficult to make those arrangements, or, is it better, to book four days and then shorten it if necessary?

It is more difficult to lengthen your stay since the hotel may well be full on the additional days you want.

Darn Sad Well, reservations can be changed up to a certain point, right? I guess I'll just have to gauge my money flow and see what I can do. ^_^

Its better to go with the latter; If, later on, for some reason you cant stay the entire period, you can call the hotel up and cancel the days you cant stay in. So when you check out, you wont be charged for those missing days. Additionally, you can try the official overflow hotel, the Doubletree (which tends to take longer to fill up), or ask around if you can bunk with anyone.

remember to call them at lest a couple days in advance just to make sure they didn't double book the room or if there will be any other problem.
