Want to go to AC, but what's the cost?

Hello everyone =3 I estimated myself of a budget for about $800, but that's only if i had room mates and such. That's what I need... room mates >3 I'm trying my very best to go but wont know for sure until January probably. We're both OK with sleeping bags and the floor =3 We've had to do that for many things so it's not a big issue with us ^_^ I can bring a cooler too *nod* I do have a fursuit, but my mate doesn't. He's not a fur either, but would just like to stick a collar on me and a leash and walk around holding it. I wanted to make sure that was OK before I ordered him passes into the con (I'm not ordering right now, later). I just need to know what you guys would say it'd cost total including the round trip plane tickets. |

Given how much time we have until next year's con, I would say that you would have an excellent chance of finding roommates. We will be bringing our 2009 "room share" forums online in January to assist those in need of roommates.
As far as costs go, the hotel room will cost the advertised rate (Somewhere around $115 a night), plus a total of 14% in taxes. (More details here)

K let me be a little more specific and see if that changes anything.
I'd be wearing my costume. Not my clothes.
No human form is seen other than him. I'd look like I'm a dog pretty much, considering the costume is indeed a dog.
If that's still a strong no, then I'll have lower costs because there'd be no point in bringing him then. What's the fun if you can't have your mate come with and be with you *shrug* Not to be rude at all, but.
I've checked the costs of the rooms and such- I looked around before posting. I'm just interested in room mates because that way i don't have to shell out a little over a hundred a night when I don't have that money to spend.

Are you asking whether it's ok to be on a leash when in fursuit? Cuz' i don't think it matters what you're wearing with the leash; the leash itself is a sticking point. I don't think anyone would object if you and your mate wanted to mime an imaginary leash, however, if that would make you both feel more comfortable. Alternately, you could check to see if anyone minded your mate just slipping two fingers under your collar, much the way people often do with dogs.
I'd be sorry to hear that your mate couldn't come, but if he doesn't feel comfortable coming without the leash...well, it's important for him to honor his limits.
I think looking for roommates is a very wise idea; most furs seem to do quite well covering costs that way. I would probably wait until january to look for specific folks to room with, however--so few people know their plans for sure before then. In fact, that's the reason why giza generally waits until january to put up the roomshare section--staff like to encourage folks to wait until their roomshare plans have less than a 50% chance of falling through. Trust me, you won't have any trouble finding a roommate then than if you try to find someone now.

No. The leash isn't a symbol of "submissive" or any sort of BDSM. It's just like hooking one onto a real dog. It's there for cute-ness.

permalinkI only meant that you are the 'public face' (as it were) of Anthrocon and the Board of Directors. Normally, what you say here is what the Board has already decided. You are always more authoritative in stating the official convention position than I will ever be.
So, no leashes at all is the final word on the subject.

On an unrelated note, my mother has been getting over a nasty case of strep throat, and i was tickled to hear that she spent most of her sick time on thursday laughing her way through kage's website. Who knows? With the promise of a story hour, i may lure her to AC yet.

Sorry, there's also a safety concern -- what if the leash gets caught in an elevator door? Just contemplating the consequences gives me the shivers!
I'd encourage you to bring him anyway. He might have more fun than he'd expect!

Nah, I wouldn't leave it on just lose.
Either he's holding it or I've got it off. I've done my fair share of choke sessions because i had worn one once for the fun of it and slammed my car door shut (locked) and low and behold it got stuck.

permalinkAs another safety point, fursuits have restricted vision. Most fursuiters bring a person called a "spotter" to guide them through unfamiliar areas, carry their belongings and other things of that nature. You might want to bring your mate along solely for that purpose.
