Portable fursuit cooling station

Hello all well I just had an Idea. I'm not even sure what triggered this one but anyway. With the costume Idea I'm working on I could get away with some unusual parts to my suit. since the suit is meant to be a cyborg I could get away with a large backpack unit and pass it off as a power pack/sensor array/life support unit. Inside the backpack I was thinking of having a blower fan hooked to a set of tubes that would run along my suit. Since as a cyborg these could be passed off as part of the life support system. I was thinking that with these external hoses I could be a walking emegancy cooling system. if some one needs a quick hit I could snake one of the cooling lines into the muzzle for a few minutes of relief. now this is all in the planning stages I'm still working on how this might all come together but what do you folks think? If this rig works It might be something useful for fursuit escorts as well |

I'd be concerned about sanitation. I wouldn't want to take a sip from a hose that someone else had recently sipped from.

permalinkBut sir this would be cold air rather then water so I wouldn't think sanitation would be an issue. It would be similar to the hose on the head tree in the headless lounge

Although that reminds me of the backpack on the movie "The Waterboy" with Adam Sandler, with a backpack with a hose for water and little cups.

That is an awesome idea, and it would be great to find several people with that kind of rig

permalinkAnother point: From what I could tell, not all fursuits have open muzzles; that is, that they have an opening in the 'mouth' that actually goes inside to the human head. If a suiter had such a head (assuming I'm correct), the tube would have to be be pushed up inside at the neck to help.
Also, seeing a tube go into a fursuiter's muzzle might give a foul-minded pervert (like myself) obscene ideas...

Somehow, i can't see such folks needing any help from insertable tubes.

permalinkThere's a slight difference. I can walk around the con, look at the suits and suiters and not automatically think of obscene things. I'd be hard-pressed not to think of such things with a tube inserted into the mouth...

My first fursona was a cybernetic fox which had a total prothesis of the left arm.
I'd intended to do it nice and shiny, classic Cylon style, but after a while I got tired of people messing with my buttons in online roleplay so I changed to a collie.
However, before changing I had played with the idea of a fursuit with a cooling system.
Inside a backpack, which for effect I was going to make from the same high shine metal/plastic to maintain the cylon-ish look, I was going to rig up a sort of air/water combination system.
Inside the suit, sewn into the lining, were thin pipelines made of flexable plastic or rubber. At high heat spots, such as under the arms or at the elbow these would gather like little heatsinks to help keep those areas cooler.
At regular intervals along the pipes, pin-holes would blow cool air onto the user
All of these pipes would feed back to the backpack which contains a small pump. However, instead of simply pumping the air into the suit directly, it pumps the air into the bottom of an inverted bottle of water through a small diffuser such as the ones you might find in an aquarium. Having to travel through the water would cool the air a little, and also create a cool effect especialy if you hooked up a color changing light or similar under the bottle to light up the bubbles as they make their way to the outlet at the top of the bottle and into the pipelines.
Also, by using scented water, you become a walking air-freshener ^_^
As for keeping the water itself cool, perhaps using a glass bottle or even a sturdy plastic one if you mounted some heatsinks to it, fan assisted or non, would help bring the temperature of the air in the system down further still.
Another good thing to add of course would be a speed control on the pump. If you're sitting down trying to listen to a show for example, you could turn the pump down to reduce noise as you dont need quite as much cooling.
Ambitious perhaps, but I was designing without a budget ^_^'
Anyways, thats one of my ideas, feel free to use it if you like it ^_^
If you have something you might like to have in a suit, shoot me a message and I'll have a go at whipping up a design for it.

If you visit my website, www.lionofthesun.com You will see that I have available the cold sun cooling system for fursuiters. It is based on a system used for millitary pilots and will be available at the event. Cool air through a rechargeable fan system (6 to 8 hour runtime), this blows air over your front and back core , your neck and chin and with the optional hose into the head of the Fursuit itself.
Very low profile system that can worn with most any standard suits. but IF you are doing cyber you could add extra battery for near limitless run

Speaking of the cooling system Solio, I was wondering in regards the to suit your doing for me, if it was sitll possible to go with the mid range over the low range cooling setup? I -may- even be able to swing for the full setup that I'd really like, but its abit iffy, doubly so with the recession and the recent job situation that isnt the best right now.
I also had a few questions for you in regards to the 'armor' of the suit since I've got some plans to put in some rare earth magnets afterwards so i can actually magnetically attach props to the suit (And they are comparitively cheap and plentiful at the local Lee Valley)
