Thanks to Techwolf, the 2008 Fursuit Group Photo on the convention center balcony can be found here.

Yes, we know that not everyone was looking at the camera. We did not have a system in place to let everyone know when the shot would be taken, for which we apologize. For 2009 we are planning both a visual and an auditory signal to let everyone on the balcony know when the picture is about to be recorded.

How about a combined visual and auditory cue?

Of course, we'd have to somehow squeeze the thing at the right moment, but I'm sure we can work out the logistics in a year's time... Smiling

A wrecking ball crane or industrial hydraulic pile driver may have the ability to do such a thing. Eye-wink

UncleKage is correct. Just click the dropdown box that says "view as". I don't think there is anyway to make it more clearer.

*thinks* Wait a minute...I think I may know what is wrong. Did you have JavaScript turn off? I need to do some testing and see if there is a way to get that box without JavaScript. Note that it is JavaScript, NOT Java. They are two different things.

Ah, I missed that. Thank you both. Smiling

And in case anyone had missed this...

That tour boat you see in front of the convention center, the Duchess, was sailing down the river at the time the Parade participants filed out onto the balconies. It actually stopped in front of the DLCC, and turned a slow 360 in the water---presumably so that everyone on board could get a good look at our colorful, adorable selves---before continuing on its way.

I was rather tickled by the notion that our combined fursuiter power was enough to disrupt maritime traffic ^_^

I'm going to make sure all the excursion boat companies are aware of the parade schedule next year. Smiling

The timing of the boat was perfect. It started to approached the center just as the last critter got onto the balcony. Everyone was in position when the boat stopped. Was that planned by someone or was it just pure luck? Everyone on that boat got a great view. Smiling

Aye, the boat adds such a cool element to the wide-angle shot---and it couldn't have happened any better if we'd tried for it. Just the way that it's perfectly centered on the DLCC, and pointing in the seven o'clock direction, tells the whole story.

About the only way it could have been better is if there were a giant "ANTHROCON 2008" banner along the balcony, just so that all those folks on the boat and the riverside (as well as the kayakers!) would have had an inkling of what was going on!

Yeah I was fortunate enough to be on the balcony and see the boat do a U turn. There were also some Kayakers, but they didn't stop. I did look down to the street and see some people almost get in accidents as they slowed down suddenly and almost broke their necks looking up XP.

Seeing a panoramic photo of all the suiters lined up really puts things in perspective though. I think they may have to find roof access the next time to accomodate crowd in years to come.

Ah yes...that ferry. That was rather amusing to see it stop in the middle of the river and spin like that, with dozens of flashes from the people taking pictures from the boat. Which prompted my question to the fursuiter next to me, "What do they think their flash is going to do at this range?"

I think it's rather ironic the picture was taken at that time considering many fursuiters were getting into the spirit and waving to the boat. The boat itself made a rather nice cue.

Of course, the kayak-ers were close enough that they called up to us. They were wondering what we were doing in costume...we were wondering why they were kayaking in such a polluted river.

OH MY... This I did not expect and explains why the traffic went up on the site. Don't worry, it can handle a lot more. Smiling

This put a smile to my muzzle to an otherwise normal day. Thank you Kage. Good thing it wasn't on the front page, I don't think I could handle that much goodness. Eye-wink Edit: It did....

I did have a radio on me, but was not in commutations with the parade handers, the Dorsie I believe. I am planning on doing this again if the group shot is on the balcony next year. I have a half a dozen radios, I'll see about getting good size external speakers for them. They could be use for direct audio cues and commutations.

Of all the balcony shots I took, this one was the best and was taken just as the cue to go back inside was given, hence why a few of them look like they are heading back in.

Holy crap! That was bigger than I expected! Everyone looks so small in those photos. They're like little furry ants O.o;

Wow that's great. Hehe I remember that part too when the ferry came by and everyone was making fun of the passengers that were using their flashes and trying to take photos of us. That and when a nice breeze would blow and everyone would try to get cooled down by it. At least I was able to find myself in the photo. Though I think next year there's going to be a real problem as far as fitting everyone in it. ^^;

Just an idea for visual and audio attention... perhaps a line of volunteer police cruisers with their lights on and a temporary siren? Or maybe we could get a bunch of those novelty air horns. You know, the ones that you get at the football games?

Hmm... so many ideas.

I do love the picture. I can't believe on just how many performers there were. We should expect to easily shatter the 500+ record next year... as scary as that might be.

Volunteer police cruisers? I think they are a little bit too busy for that.

The air horns, though, are already on order. I'm hoping to get the chance to test them when next I visit Pittsburgh.
