Disabled individuals

My grandma is disabled and no one had informed us that wheelchairs were there to rent at the Westin. She is nearly 70 and was somewhat upset that she was unable to addend many events, do to limited mobility. It would be nice if there was some sort of way to let people know that there are wheelchairs there for those who really need it.

Um, I think you were misinformed. The Westin does not have wheelchairs to rent. It has a single wheelchair that is available in the event of an emergency, such as a guest who sprains an ankle or becomes suddenly ill.

If someone attending the convention needs a wheelchair, then we strongly suggest that someone bring a wheelchair. If that is not feasible, there are pharmacies nearby that can rent the appropriate equipment.

I am disabled. I use a wheelchair for great distances like going from the Westin Hotel to the Convention Center. I called the Westin and found out that they did NOT have one available. However, they could secure one for me, and it was expensive, as far as I was concerned. However, my city's Senior Center could have rented me one for the week for $10. But a friend had one for me that we brought along (we drove in).

When you are disabled, you MUST come prepared, and be aware that when something says "Handicapped Accessible," they're telling you that WITH HELP FROM A NON-HANDICAPPED PERSON, you could get into a bathroom, for example. TRY to get into one by yourself, in a wheelchair, with no help. I learned a lot this year!

The Westin may not have wheelchair rentals, but the convention center does. The Westin had even called us saying so. I now know that the Westin does not rent them, but the convention center does. My apologies for the confusion.
