Are there any other fans of the punk rock out there? If you're one maybe we could get together and talk about our favorite songs by the Damned or Ramones. I will extend greetings to those who like things such as Blink 182 and emo as well. After all, kids need their punk rock too. |

I'm still a fan of Good Charlotte (borderline emo, I know...Guilty Pleasure...), The Offspring, and a few other post-80's punk-type bands. It's fun stuff.

Descendents, Ramones, Sex Pistols, Nerf Herder, Rocket from the Crypt, The Stooges, Butthole Surfers, Buzzcocks, Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Black Flag, Bad Brains. I wouldn't mind hanging out for a bit, I'll have my portable battery-powered speakers and 80-gig Zune on me.

Not to diminish other folks' responses, but damn, you have an amazing list there. Extra props for RFTC, Nerf Herder, and Butthole Surfers since they're less well-known.

I CAN'T SURF
dun dunna dunna na nananana
BUT NEITHER CAN YOU
That's all I know. Someone gave me an interscope records sampler when I was like 10 and it had that song on it. I listened to it forever.

Reverend Horton Heat is pretty much the best band ever. My fave of theirs is "Bales of Cocaine." ;D

permalinkI like a lot of the older semi well known stuff too. Bad Religion, Dead Kennedys, The Clash, Sex Pistols. I also like NOFX, Husker Du, Rancid, The Melvins, Horror Pops, Mudvayne. Straying a bit away from punk with some of those I know ^-^
I know that Nerf Herder did the Buffy themesong, but I don't know of anything else of theirs xD

Are you a punk rock fursuiter? If you are I think I'll have to buy you a drink on principle. Unless you're straight edge in which case I'll buy you a smoothie or somethin'.

permalinkActually I'm a zombie, but you might be able to add punk rock to the description xD, and no, I'm not straight edge.

How's this sound: 9:30 PM Thursday at the Zoo we meet up. That's the time dances start, but come on, if you're looking here you're probably not interested in that. From there we can play it by ear.

permalinkI'll try to be around. Definitely not interested in dancing much but I do tend to get distracted by a lot of things at cons.
If you just look around at the con I'm the chick in the big green dog thing suit though haha.

Just to clarify, the dance actually starts at 9:00pm, not 9:30
However, if you're looking for punk music the best time to go is early on Thursday, as that's when we've got DJs playing retro. I can't say for certain that there will be punk rock included, but you could ask them to find out!

Ah, good to know; I think the HTML schedule threw me off a bit. I'll let the 9:30 meeting time stand.

permalinkGooski's is a great dive bar on Polish Hill (about a 5 minute cab ride from downtown) that often has punk bands on Saturday nights and has the best jukebox in the City! 31st Street Pub, at the far end of the Strip District, also occassionally has punk bands. A couple of other bars in Bloomfield also feature live music, including some punk bands. Some live music venues to check out are Mr. Small's in Millvale, Brillobox in Lawrenceville, and the Rex Theater in the South Side. Some of the better local bands are Anti-Flag(usually play Mr. Small's when in town), Modey Lemon, Karl Hendricks Band, Life in Bed, and Local Honey.
A little Pittsburgh geography for you... from downtown heading away(east) from the City on Liberty... you go through the Strip District(a lot of clubs), Lawrenceville(hip area with local boutique clothing shops - check out "Sugar", galleries, restaurants, and coffee shops), Bloomfield(Pittsburgh's Little Italy), Oakland, Shadyside(high-end commercial shops). Arsenal Lanes in Lawrenceville is about as cool a bowling alley as you'll find(different themes each night, including college night, live bands, karaoke, etc) if you are looking for something fun other than clubs/bars.

I managed to miss the meet, my bad. Noticed it was 9:38 on my phone, was in the Zoo, no idea where you guys were sitting. Too shy to yell out something.

I love it- I fancy the older stuff, Sex Pistols, PIL, Ramones, X Ray Spex, Iggy Pop, ect.. I do listen to almost anything after that as well though.
Cheers!

Hey there, it's always good to know there are others in and around this fandom that dig the punk rock. Now I think I have to listen to some X-Ray Spex.

I love most types of music but mostly metal, everything that branches off it I like as well (tecno-metal, crock, emo, screamo, punk-rock...)
I've seen a load of the bands mentioned on this thread live!
I'm not going to bother putting up a list of all the bands I like because I don't think I could fit them all in

There are a ton of bands mentioned in this thread that I would LOVE to see live, but unfortunately haven't (and since I live in Austin I have no excuse!). Maybe I should organize some sort of dive bar crawl next AC. Hm...
