Anthrocon features some of the most talented DJs in the Furry Fandom, but who are they really? We'll be taking some time in coming weeks to let you know, in their own words, what makes them tick and what you can expect from their sets.

Next up, a long time veteran of Anthrocon, DJ Dragonboy!

Fandom Name: Valrejn
Real Name: Tom Rothrock
Stage Name: DJ DragonBoy
Influences: anything with a beat
Genres: breaks, funk, hiphop, electro, acid, disco, house, drum&bass

Biography:

DragonBoy bought a transistor radio in the 70's and has been listening to music ever since. Starting with disco and rock and later becoming heavily influenced by 80's electronic synth/pop and hip hop, music to dance to was always on his mind. He bought his first keyboard, then a drum machine and a multitrack tape deck and experimented with his own music and recording some local bands.

In 1988 he attended his first warehouse party/rave and got exposed to drum & bass, deciding he wanted to be a DJ too and adopting the name DragonBoy. He joined with Secret Squirrel to cohost a weekly evening alternative music show on WOKI FM until in '92 the station changed format. He spent the next six years at WUTK FM becoming a music director and hosting two weekly techno radio shows, travelling all over the US to attend and play at rave parties, and became a weekly resident DJ at The Underground, The Boiler Room, and Egypt dance clubs in Knoxville, TN. In 1999 he moved to Huntsville, AL and has been a resident DJ for the Blue Room and Planet Vinyl dance clubs. He has DJed and performed live music with many acts over the years including Rabbit in the Moon, Lords of Acid, 808 State, Dieselboy, The Crystal Method, The Chemical Bros. and Deee-Lite.

He entered the furry fandom in 1998, attending Mephit Furmeet, DJing there in '99 and for several years after. In 2001 he started DJing at Anthrocon, and has also been a DJ at Rocket City Furmeet, Midwest Furfest, Furry Weekend Atlanta, Dragon*Con, and Elliot's Live Events. He still writes and produces his own music today, featured online at http://furaffinity.net/user/dragonboy and on Wednesday evenings you can hear him DJ live at Club Rainbow Tiger on Second Life, still using just two turntables and all the records he has collected for over 30 years.
