While I don't know how, I have watched a couple How-To videos on breakdancing. What I'm doing is taking the steps I like and mold them into other form of dancing. The footwork is what I find fascinating. I don't really see myself spinning on my head and all that jazz.

I don't know if the Anthrocon dance is a good place to breakdance. We keep the lights very low, and breakdancing requires a great deal of open space. If you're good at it, a crowd is likely to form which can interfere with other dancers. If you're not good at it, someone can get hurt pretty easy. At the very least you'd want to clear it with the Dorsai before you start

Well I did see in the youtube videos of last years con
It was pretty bright but I will get with the Dorsai
Thanks
Appreciate it
Oh and .............. Whats a Dorsai?

permalinkWhile there are many accurate ways to answer that (evil grin), in this case the simple answer is "The Dorsai are Anthrocon Security".
They are the people who decide whether any action is acceptable behavior within the spirit of the con rules. They will decide whether break dancing is appropriate and safe for the other members of the con. If they say no, it will not be permitted. While Uncle Kage himself might be able to override their decision, I doubt that he ever would.

permalinkI've always wondered. How is Dorsai pronounced? Is it 'Door-say' or 'Door-see' ?
- Login or register to post comments
permalinkI've heard them say it as "Door-sigh". A long "I" sound at the end.
At the con, it can also be pronounced "Sir" or "Ma'am" depending on the gender of the Dorsai in question.

permalinkYes, and I've found out the *hard* way you don't pronounce it "OH DEAR GOD NO THEY FOUND ME!!! RUN!!!"
-If someone walks up to you and says they are a pathological liar, would you believe them?

It's "door-sigh". Other pronunciations are allowed, especially if used to make bad puns. My friend Clif had one about war was "breaking up the band on the planet, Jimmy and Tommy Dorsai."
And yes, a polite "Hey, you!" usually suffices.

The Dorsai Irregulars are a band of mercenary soldiers from the planet of the same name. We hire them to handle security for us, since they are on the only group who can keep order with 3000 semi-human creatures gathered in one spot.
Perhaps it is best summarized by the refrain of one of their many drinking songs:
On Neuland they say that we're devils.
On Venus and Harmony, too.
But on Dorsai we're called the Irregulars;
A swamp-crawling, night-fighting crew.
More information is here.

It's pretty loud in there... not sure bringing some of your own music for the dance is much of an option anyway.

I'm up for some b-boyin' if I go this year. A suggestion would be to have a time where the dance floor is cleared for breakers to show their stuff. Definitely gotta try it.

Im still trying to get more rotations with my windmill.I can stand on my head (Just need top start actually spinning.
Im failing at the 1990.
I cant do flips....I need some gymnastics training with that one.....

I'm still trying to figure out how to do some of 'Soulja Boys' foot work. Why is it so hard for a white guy to dance, but I almost got all of the foot work for "Crank That" down.

Well I now officially love Travis Barker... because he took a disaster and made it into something quite wonderful. This is pretty much what the song needed. The guitar and his f'in amazing drug set.
I still hate the original.
