2008 Artists Alley/Con Store Report
Posted by Duncan da Husky on Tue, 2008-07-08 20:18|
We came into Artists Alley and Con Store this year knowing it was going to be a big year. We had new cash registers, new staff, a new payout process, and an Alley that was 40% larger than last year. I am pleased to say that we met all of the challenges presented and created and Artists Alley and Con Store that was really great. Were we perfect? No, we hit some bumps along the way. But we have reached a point where we can stop creating processes and can start refining the processes. Of course, I'm the spokesman for the department, and the most visible person in it. I am under no illusions that our success is all because of me. First off, I had help in all of the pre-planning, register programming, and process design from my husband Takaza. Once it came time to execute all of our plans, my staff jumped in and made it happen: Woody, Frostbite, Chanur and Grandma and Grandpa Kage all came back from last year, and were eager to go to work.. Shy Matsi, Rama, Dave (TecKnow), Delphi, and Space Dingo joined us this year and did a great job, as well. I want to single out Rooth, my de facto second in command (and next year it will be more than de facto!) for taking initiative to improve the Alley both before and during the convention and providing some outstanding technical know-how. Finally, we wouldn't have been able to make AA/CS work without the help of Takaza's Finance staff: Linnaeus, DaveQat, Tango, and Hartree. Thanks to all of you! Now, let's talk about the nitty-gritty: |
Anthrocon 2008 Charity Auction Followup
Posted by Rigel (Rigel) on Sun, 2008-07-06 13:34|
Hi, and welcome to the 2008 edition of the Anthrocon Charity Auction Followup! First, the bad news: The Charity Auction had the lowest return this year since 1999, we're sorry. There were issues, we know - some we could've fixed, others out of our hands. We are working to change for 2009. We have plans - BIG plans - that should turn things around on many levels. Stay tuned! And now the good news: We raised a total of $3,982 for Pittsburgh Parrot Rescue, our charity this year! They also benefited from donations at their Dealers' Room table to the tune of $1,102! Kage & 2's charity benefit performance raised $3,040! Dr. Gerbasi's survey team donated $130! Anthrocon provided a matching (sorta) donation of $5,000! |

Anthrocon 2008 Masquerade Followup
Posted by Rigel (Rigel) on Thu, 2008-07-03 18:33|
Hi all and welcome to this year's edition of the Anthrocon 2008 Masquerade Followup! This was yet another well-executed show, demonstrating that Anthrocon is the place to be for costume performance. I'd like to thank everyone who participated for making this event as easy for me as it was for you. Every performer was on their mark and attentive, resulting in a show that ran well and was enjoyed. I'd like to also thank John "KuddlePup" Cole for lending us his expert skills as MC once again and for helping me coordinate the rehearsal and presentation. |
