Artists Alley Questions

  • How does Artists Alley work?

  • Isn't Artists Alley just for artists who aren't good enough to get a dealer table?
  • How does Artists Alley work?
  • Artists Alley is a place for artists to exhibit and sell works of their own creation. There is no charge for a table in Artists Alley; however, the table space is limited and seats are distributed each morning by lottery. Anthrocon handles all sales at a central table and pays artists in cash for the pieces sold at the end of each day.

  • Can I reserve a spot in Artists Alley now?
  • Sorry, no! Seats in Artists Alley are distributed every morning by lottery; artists must be present when their name is called to receive a seat. We do everything we can to maximize the number of artists we can accommodate; however, there is only so much available space. Note that we typically do not fill all of the seats in the Alley on all three days during the convention; on the days that the Alley is not full, everyone who has signed up gets a seat!

  • How can I sign up and get my seat in Artists Alley when I have to hang my art in the Art Show at 10 AM on Friday?
  • Please note that you can hang your art in the Art Show between 10 AM and 7 PM on Friday, and the Art Show isn't tentatively scheduled to open to the public until 2 PM on Friday. You'll have plenty of time to hang your art once you have secured your seat in the Alley. We understand the schedule conflict and will work with you if you need to take a brief amount of time away from the Alley to hang your art. Please be sure to speak with one of the Artists Alley staff before you leave, though!

  • Isn't Artists Alley just for artists who aren't good enough to get a dealer table?
  • That is nonsense! Some of the finest artists in our fandom like to sit in the Alley. You will find many of their works on display in the Art Show. A dealer table costs money, needs to be staffed all day long, requires that a Pennsylvania sales tax license be obtained, and so on. Some of our artists prefer the freedom that Artists Alley offers to them, as well as the fact that it costs nothing extra and does not involve any government paperwork!
