Welcome to Anthrocon!

Anthrocon is the world's largest convention for those fascinated with anthropomorphics, which are humanlike animal characters. We are a collection of artists, animators, writers, costumers, puppeteers, and just everyday fans who enjoy cartoon animals and their kin. This Summer we will convene at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in Pittsburgh, PA, from July 2-5, 2009 for workshops, panel discussions, an art exhibition and a dealer room, and much more! Membership is open to any and all who like to imagine what it would be like if animals could walk and talk as we do.

JBadger

Hi all,

Need to make a quick announcement. Anthrocon has learned that one of its long time staffers and attendees, JBadger, was admitted to the hospital yesterday. He is ok, but his physician has requested that he remain in the hospital for the next 5 days or so. This means that JBadger will not be attending Anthrocon this year.

JB is a good friend to many staffers, and has been an Anthrocon attendee since AAC1 in 1997. Please keep him in your thoughts for a speedy recovery.

Those beautiful con badges

HI everyone. I wanted to throw out a little piece of helpful advice to everyone. Each year, Anthrocon is graced with some of the most talented artists in the fandom. And every year, we see a dazzling collection of custom conbadges and artwork that people wear to display their characters. Unfortunately, something happens EVERY year. Someone will spill something on their badge, it will get folded, bent, or ripped, or sometimes even lost.

Remember, your custom con badge is a piece of art. You paid for it, and it's not usually considered "disposable". So here's a suggestion that folks have come up with over the years. Scan the original badge and then print a color copy of it to wear at the convention. Leave the original in a safe place. This way, you won't lose or damage something that cannot be easily (if at all) replaced.

Anthrocon Dealers: Your Final Checklist!

Have you started flailing yet? I know I have! We're at ONE WEEK to showtime, and now's when you should get those final things in order and make sure everything is peachy keen-er-oonie when you show up.

What you'll need:

* Absolutely positively above all else, you MUST have a state or federally issued photograph ID with the same name you registered under

What you'll probably want:

* An additional table cloth: the David L. Lawrence Convention Centre will only be able to provide the table cloth on your table when you arrive; if you need an additional one, say to cover your goods when you're away, you will need to provide it yourself.

Pre-Con Reception at the Wildlife Center!

Our charity this year is the Wildlife Center of the Animal Rescue League of Western Pennsylvania, the region's premiere shelter for injured and orphaned wildlife. The staff and volunteers of the Center are very excited to be the recipients of Anthrocon 2009's Charity Auction proceeds -- so excited, in fact, that they have arranged a reception and tour of their facility for Anthrocon members on Wednesday evening, July 1, from 7-9 PM. They are offering snacks and a rare opportunity to meet face-to-face (or -beak, or -muzzle) with some of their residents. Raptors, corvids, terrapins, procyonids, mephits, and many others are waiting to greet you!
